Hey everyone, yes, I totally realize how the title and the existence of this post may come across. There’s a lot of “new material” in here, I swear!
Hopefully this doesn’t come off as way too self-aggrandizing (a little still, certainly), but this is a personal newsletter and this was an atypically busy week on my end - so I wanted to be able to consolidate all the links here.
After launching Narra Gallery early Monday morning Philippines time last week, I proceeded to have a seemingly Black Swan media week where I was busy every single day, for both work and my extracurriculars.
I definitely cover a lot of my greatest hits: crypto markets, crypto art collecting, Philippines tech, Burning Man, etc…
…but I also get a chance talk about weird stuff I don’t normally cover: Dogecoin, the evolution of the NBA, being insider-outsider effects in the Philippines, Kasparov as Jordan, and more.
This current crypto market is just wild I guess, my time is starting to get totally filled with these things. Worst case this is my roundabout way of showing you that I remodeled my downstairs into more of a home office since it’s essentially a bunch of videos of me dialing in from my living room.
Some highlights for the past week 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Esquire Philippines
To start the week off, Esquire included an excellent piece from our team on the current state of the global Bitcoin market.
Esquire Philippines: “When Should You Buy Bitcoin?”
The team at Esquire then followed it up quickly with an interview where I answer the essential questions about the latest Dogecoin rally for the PH market (and try to remain super-neutral).
Esquire Philippines: “Dogecoin: What You Need to Know About the Cutest Cryptocurrency and Why It's in the News”
wow!
And all of this btw, was before Elon himself did his thing to both the Bitcoin and Dogecoin markets…
SuperRare Spotlight
I then did a livestream interview with parrott_ism on the SuperRare Spotlight program where I got to talk all things Crypto Art.
This one was awesome as SR is my primary Crypto Art Platform and a bunch of community members that I regularly interact with were participating in the comment section of the livestream.
Parrott and I got to talk about:
My Crypto Art Collection and how I think about collecting
My recently released Narra Gallery - where Parrott is featured multiple times
Why I collect art and capital deployment as an advancement of world view
Artists as new blood in the crypto world, what mental models they will add to the space, cross-pollination, cultural exchange
🔥 Burning Man community as the intersection of Art and Tech, blank spaces, proof of work, parallels between crypto art and the playa
My day job at Binance and the necessity of contributing to the ecosystem
A discussion of my writing here on Speculations, especially my “Unholy Unions”
Writing and the pile up of unfinished work
The history of the “Gold Tree” branding
What’s next in crypto art, the “Crypto Native Artist”, and Crypto Art as a performative medium
I’m a SuperRare loyalist
Savage Talks
A couple nights later, I showed up on the Savage Talks podcast, where we had a super wide ranging conversation that covered a bunch of topics I never normally talk about. Also, shoutout to Bodwin who added a bunch form the comment section in the livestream.
We talked about:
How I got started in Crypto Art
Collecting as a craft and my collection style
Making the jump to being an Artist???
Pak, The Creation (nice try!), and Pak’s philosophy of art
Crypto Native Artists, Garry Kasparov, Steph Curry’s impact on the NBA, and Nietzsche
NBA Stats
Slug Rate
Crypto in the Philippines
Insider-Outsider effects in the Philippines
NBA Top Shot and the NBA as the greatest Reality TV show
Zeefreaks Tribe
Finally, I got a chance to appear on ZFT, a super popular local trading show here in the Philippines.
I got a chance to cover the basics of the crypto market, Bitcoin, the blockchain, and to give an intro to Binance in general for their audience.
Not clear to me yet if this was a freakish week where all these appearances at once were mostly coincidental - or if this is some new bull market normal that I will have to get used to.
Regardless, I don’t expect this Media Roundup format to necessarily be a weekly thing, but I will try to share when there are good appearances, as my writing cycle is often much longer and much more constrained than some of these more free flowing open format discussions - and so I get to cover a lot more “material” in these appearances.
Less shameless content coming soon though, I promise!
